Can't create a player profile

FYI to all Vista users -

When trying to create a profile for the first time, there is a slight chance the OS will not auto-prompt you to unblock CoDWaW.exe and CoDWaWmp.exe from the firewall block list. You will know this is the case because every time you try to create a name, it will fail, giving you the message that you need to create a name.

If your computer prompts you, obviously you want to click “Unblock”. If it doesn’t prompt you, simply go into your Control Panel and choose Windows Firewall. On the left side, click “Allow a Program Through Windows Firewall.” If the game’s exes are not already in the list you are going to have to manually Add them. Click “Add” and locate your game’s exes in the directory that you installed the game to. Don’t forget to add both the Single Player and Multiplayer exes. Save your changes and attempt to create an account again. Everything should be fine!

This may cause isolated issues with XP users as well, but has been encountered on Vista in rare cases as well.

I have a problem creating a profile. When I enter a name, it says that name is "not available" I have tried several names that have always been unique in other games. Any insight as to why it will not let me register a profile name?

Nevermind. I guess it just did not like my name because it has the word "coop" in it. which must be a protected word. Bummer

Aaah but in CoD: W@W they have introduced a (in my opinion) stupid system whereby there can only be one of each name.

In practice say I wanted to be called "Tom", but someone had already registered with the name "Tom", then I would have to choose a different name or slightly modify the name I wanted, e.g. "Tom9"

So if it says "Name Is Not Available" then I would say somebody already has the name you want, so you cant have it.

Change it and try again!

(Also, keep in mind that once you have chosen your name and it is accepted - IT CANNOT BE CHANGED!!!!)

I can use coupes and C00PS (with zeros instead of "o's") but that's lame.

I would not care if it was some esoteric username if I could play under any name I choose. Is there no way to change your on screen name? I can add a clantag but we should be able to use multiple onscreen names off the same profile like in COD4.

Online profiles are unique, and as such, once created, your player name cannot be changed without deleting the profile. You are allowed five online profiles. Your player name can only be changed for an offline profile, for use in situations such as LAN play.

That is super lame.


Another question. Where are the online profiles stored locally? I cannot find the files to backup my profile.

Did you check the firewall as stated in the lead post?

Sounds like you will need to forward your ports. A search here should find how to do it and what ports to forward.
