If you had a choice of which battlefield to fight on in World War II, on the side of the Allies, what would it be out of these choices?:

Stalingrad (Battle of Stalingrad -Soviet Union)
Description: Urban, close quarter combat. Included building-to-building searches and it was cold - 24/7. Sniper coverage was rampant.

El Alamein (Battle of El Alamein - Tunisia)
Description: Long distance combat, sniper/rifle shopping center, extremely hot days and extremely cold nights. Logistical problems made ammunition a luxury.

Normandy (D-Day - France)
Description: Initial landings were dangerous. Rained for most days. Ambushes, artillery (plus tanks) strikes and snipers were frequent.

Dover (Battle of Britain - Great Britain)
Description: Battles mostly consisting of airplane combat. Life expectancy in Battle of Britain (when fighting actively) was not pleasant (two weeks at most). Ammunition use was conservative. G-Force in airplane took great, at times, painful tolls on the pilot's body.

Well i would have to say Normandy.
Even though u were propley lucky if u made it out of your boat but thats the mission i always love playing the most.
But if it were real life i would probley still stick to that or i would have even been a parachuter, dont forget them guys

Well I would go aside from those choices and say the landing at iwo jima. Japanese war tactics were to fight to the death. Jungle. Heavy fireing and high casualties.

Wasn't Stalingrad where the Russians got mowed down by the hundred ?

Definately not that one.

By the thousands to be more accurate, and a hefty bunch of the killing where by there own people. If you retreated you would be killed by a russian machine gun who was waiting for you.

Battle Of Britian for me. I think you know why...

Stalingrad.. for the Germans of course. The privelage of killing commies mixed with the ability to turn the tide of the war being my reasoning

Ok then, but the Germans got their ass kicked in Stalingrad because Hitler took charge and refused the constant requests from his commanders to withdrawll.

Stalingrad. I like urban areas like that for some reason. I dont like to go in them but I think they are cool for wars.

I played paintball in an urban environment once, it was horrible.

You had no idea when it was gonna come from.

Proberly El Alamein but i'll be quite worried of German tanks and the Desert heat

Stalingrad would be my last choice. among the reasons, one of them were pointed out before. In charges made, I can't imagine how there was not 100% casualties. russians running into german fire, any retreaters would be shot by their officers.

If anyone wants to see a really good depiction of this, watch the movie "Enemy at the Gates"

lol the russians were pretty kickass. for one thing they built a tank that could stand up to the dreaded tiger. and then there's the PPsH... i am not russian though. i just think they were really awesome in WW2. my map would be Dover. its not too hot and you dont wake up to a wall of lead every morning. also there were supplies available. none of this weapons-starving. most of dover was aircraft anyways and it is easier to escape from a plane three hundred feet up than a man three hundred feet out.

Id go with El Alamein or D-Day. If it was El Alamein i would chose to be in a tank or part of an anti-tank crew. If it was D-Day, id choose to be a paratrooper rather then running up the beaches.

i chose stalingrag to defend my country. plus, enemy at the gates really isnt a good description. it shows only about 1000 soldier, the russians running right into a small platoon of germans along a trench. all of the russians die except for vassily and danilov. anyway, russia won at stalingrad, and pushed those bastards far upwards in their asses.

If I had a choice with the place I'd be able to go to as a soldier...Utah Beach because majority of craft got on shore safe and I'd hope to be a BAR support gunner.

If different:Monte Cassino-Italian Campaign as a rifleman in the Polish Carpatian Divison.

dam catman nice, :) my choice would be Stalingrad, because im russian. if feel its my obligation, plus, the russians had this "F*** YOU YOU NAZI BAS****!!!" attitude which was really kick-ass!

Yes the PPSH was super great but its sights sucked because it shot soo many bullets and it just had a sucky sight..It was a mostly a spray ...really..But people got the hang of the sights.

And i have nothing against russia but they stole Finnish land in WWII and the still have it..And Finland lost 10,000 men fighting against you and you lost 100,000 men.

Finland was a Neutral but Russia wanted land ..

P.S. Hiltler helped Finland..I dont like Hitler

P.P.S. My great great grandfather fought in the battle against the Russians

I would Choose D-Day As landing behind enemy lines with loads of other squads made u feel that little bit safe

Alpha_Pasta
08-27-2006, 04:47 AM
Unless you landed right on top of the germans.

MidnightRider
08-27-2006, 07:38 AM
Or landed in the wrong zone with none of your squad mates. Such as what really happend on D-Day.

True true, although most of the key airborne objectives were completed with mixed groups.

MidnightRider

Most key battles in any war were compleated with mixed groups.

Hmmmm..........

I would like to experience life as a german soldier, especially in the 12thSS.

Or even 2nd platoon, easy company, 101st.

Most key battles in any war were compleated with mixed groups.

Worst misdrops were in Market Garden.

The D-Day drops weren't so bad because the german coastal units were seperated from the panzer divisions further inland.

Tizmo
08-27-2006, 05:50 PM
I would say dday was the worst, because the pilots got confused in the clouds etc. The jumps at market garden were daytime jumps, if I am not mistaken.

Alpha_Pasta
08-28-2006, 01:19 AM
Daytime jumps that were largely succesful - due to the pilots not taking evasive action when they hit flak 5 minutes from the DZs.

Market garden was just a failure. Monty failed to use the information that Panzer and SS divisions were stationed in the area.

Battle of britain. But maybe something less dangerous, like an ammunition-sorting-out guy?

Easy. I would choose Battle of Britain, and become a hero.

PZIV

I wouldn't fight as an ally probably, but eh...El Alamein

I don't really want to explain why right now either, but I have facts to back it up.
