Well let me explain it in a thousand words or less :D

Really it wasn't too bad, I won't lie and say it didn't hurt because that just wouldn't be right. When he first started I would say it hurt on a scale of 1 - 10 around a 6. He told me he was having problems with my skin taking the ink in some areas and he really had to pound the heck out of those areas to cover it and beings that those areas were already pounded it raised the pain up to about a 7. During the tattooing he would spray my skin with a cold mixture of water and surgical soap and man that felt great and I smiled inside when I saw him pick up the spray bottle :P At about half way through I saw him pick up the bottle and sprayed it on a paper towel and then gave my arm a swipe and man oh man !!! I saw FREAKIN stars and was about a few seconds from passing out  After I contained my exposure I asked him "what in gods name was that!!" he said "sorry, had to put some alcohol on it.

The whole process took 3 hours and took about four 5 minute smoke breaks and ran me a cost of $0.00  Cause my son who is heading back to Parris Island from leave after graduating Marine boot camp wanted his first tat as well so he paid the $240.00....actually it did cost me $30.00, I gave him a tip. I already have my next one picked out but will probably wait till next winter to get it...gonna stick with nothing but Tribal and use various animal portraits, next one is a wolfs head that looks almost real and have to have him customize it to add some tribal to it.

Anyone who has wanted one and is too scared...it's really not that bad. It does hurt but not bad enough that you would want to cry or anything....well that is unless you get it in a tender area like the neck, across bone, etc....

Yea there sure is, it took me a he|| a long time to pick this out. I knew after looking for a few days that I wanted to go with the tribal look and must have viewed over 500 tattoo pages as well as probably thousands of tattoo pictures. I spent at least a month searching and doing lots of reading on everything from the good to the bad.

But yes, the biggest part is picking out what you want, then you must descide where on your body you want it. My son kept flip floppin from one thing to another that he liked and I told him "Be 100% positive this is what will make you happy...this will be with you for life"

I myself went with tribal because I think most designs are not only extremly tastefull but are also very pleasing to the eye. They just stand out like they are trying to make a statement. Also the black doesnt fade as fast as most colors as long as you take care of it well, like in the summer making sure you dont go out without sunblock on AT LEAST that area of your body. But I will forwarn you, black is more painful as well as the fact that with tribal your not talking about your typical outlining because the artist has to do the tribal outlines and then go back and fill the tribal in. Where as non-tribal usually is just basic lines with no real width to worry about filling (with the black that is).

If you want one, surf google images for what you might be interested in

VERY IMPORTANT also that I forgot to mention above is once you descide on what and where for a tat, make sure you do your homework on what tattoo parlor your going to use. Don't shop around for prices because price isnt and shouldn't be an issue and Im not joking when I say this. Your main concerns when going to a tattoo parlor should be:

Do they have an autoclave ( this sterlizes equipment )
What other methods of sterlization do they use
How long have they been tattooing

These are just the top things to be concerned about, outside of all this make sure you actually visist parlors in your area and not just call them about things. Take a look inside the places and see how clean the place is, ask them to see their certificates for such things as the bimonthly inspection of the autoclave unit to make sure it has been tested to reach and maintain a minimum of 246 degrees for 30 minutes. Talk to others that you may know that have had tattoos or ask some of the patrons in the shops you visit if they have had work done there and if so could you see it.

#1 Rule - Too much time and research is not wasted time

It cost me 240$ / well my son paid for it as my XMas gift :D

I was quoted 300$ at another shop but after lookin around I noticed the place wasnt to clean, like the guy at the front counter eating a sandwich while trying to do an outline for a tattoo and getting crumbs all over the tracing and counter

No problem at all man, I did so much research into this I had it coming out my ears and want everyoine thats interested to just be sure they are well informed before jumping into something such as this.

Also one other piece of advice is that while your in a parlor...see if its possible for you to see someone getting a tattoo or at the very least when one of the artists might be available for you to talk to for a few minutes. The idea of this is because you want to find out what this persons overall attitude is....sorta like when ya spend time in the hospital...you want the experience to be as pleasing as possible and to have someone with a bad bedside manner will just leave you feeling uncomfortable.

It's not that bad really, on a scale of 1 - 10 as me being a sissy when ti comes to pain I would rank myself at a 12 ... no joke. Took me 12 years to get the nerve to get one and now Im ready to get a second one !!

Well let me explain this a little....

He wanted to get me a tattoo for XMas....

I thought paying 240$ was alittle much...

So I made him a little deal....

Next Xmas when he is home on leave he pays 100$ towards my 2nd tat and he can have my motor powered scooter, which is like new.

So we both make out, he gets the scooter he really wanted and I never use and I get 2 tats
