Apple Macintosh: no viruses, doesn't use software made by a monopolizing comapany like Microsoft (You can get Windows for a Mac, but that is just a disgrace to Apple users), and just all around better for work.
As for a Windows PC I don't have a preference, what ever is in my price range.

All of those are imo more or less crap. Best computers are self build.

my concept is that if a computer is made by a big company it either totally sucks (compaq-HP/dell/emachines) or is waaaaaay too expencive (dell/sony)
one last thing: NEVER I SAY NEVER BUY ANTHING THAT GOES INSIDE A TOWER FROM DELL EVER!!!!!!!! if u mix a dell PS with a industry standard MB or vice/versa BOOOOM!!!! instant inferno! NOT GOOD!!!

If i gonna spend the money to get a new pc it gonna be one i want, with the parts i want, and put together the way i want. I have had 5 pc's going at one time, but my main pc has been running for 10 yrs and it was my 1st build. I only upgraded and replaced the power supply.

u also need to put Alienware up there. microsoft do make computers they just dont make home ones. they make comerical ones. Ever noticed IMB on the side. thats a branch of microsoft.

IBM is not a branch of Microsoft. IBM invented the PC.

Personaly you couldnt give me a Dell. I had some bad things happen with Dell and id almost take an E Machine over a Dell. Well, almost.

I've heard bad things about their hardware, not to mention the fact you can't upgrade them.

Hmm ... I was thinking of getting a Dell, but now I dunno :disappointed:.
you can upgrade ram and video card with a dell, thats about it. Don't get an alienware , your paying 800+ for just the name....

If you want a good pc, build it yourself. Just like a hot rod car or motorcycle. Buy your frame, then buy a part at a time till your ready to put it together. Thats the only way to go in my book.

Building is definately the best option. You know to read up a lot first.

BTW: DTD=death to dell. i have melted down an entire system from puting a dell motherboard with a standard psu. ther only things that survived were the drives and the cpu heatsink. i have learned my lesson with dells.

I am and always will be a for building your own. You can get the parts you want, w/o the parts you dont want and make it your own. Why let some big corp let you think the know what you want.

EXACTLY!
I agree build your own.
I have had 4 laptops in the past year. 2 Toshibas, both crap. The one I still have is the worst thing I ever spent £1200 on. The 2 Fujitsu Siemans I've had are great.

Why, if the first Toshiba was crap, did you waste more money on another 1?!
It wasn't me who bought it, it was my parents. Also, I thought it might just be that one model I had.

I am wondering. I am looking at building a new machine from the ground up. I dont want to use any stock parts from my present machine with the exception of the DVD burner and maybe the memory, as good as it has been to me over the years.
Anyone have any sugestions on some good parts at a decent price. I would like to stick with AMD and NVIDIA but other than that i am open to ideas.

I like to build my own, Its usually cheaper and more reliable. I also get a warm and fuzzy feeling when i look at it when it's finished.... anyway
