I just installed COD on my PC, and it does not appear to be working in neither single nor multiplayer modes....

In single player it loads up with a dark dray background, which I don't think is how it is supposed to look, and it displays the options on the right (new game, load game, etc..). When I click on 'New Game' it asks me what difficulty I would like, then when I select a difficulty it just returns to the main screen. I have tried this with all the difficulties and the same thing happens.

In multiplayer, everything looks normal, but when I try and connect to a server, the following message comes up:
Couldn't load player animation script mp/playeranim.script
I have tried a few servers but the same message keeps coming up.

I have tried installing the game, but this does not do anything. Also, I have updated COD with the 1.5 patch.

My computer has an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ processor running at 2.2ghz, 512mb RAM, a nvidia Geforce 5700 gfx card and has direct x 9.0c installed.

All my other games seem to be working fine. Any help is appreciated.

All of my pak files are a few megabytes smaller than what it says they are there... Do you think there might be something wrong there?

Yes, that is a problem. They have to be the EXACT size (byte for byte). Don't look at the general MB because that value is misleading. Instead, right-click each pk3 file and choose "Properties" and look at the number of bytes.

Oh, actually if I look that way, they are the right size... So there is nothing on that page that is any help to me.

OK, then the next thing to check is your video driver. You have to have a Radeon or Geforce based card. Update your video driver to the latest version and see if that fixes the problem.

*edit* Oh you already said you have a geforce card. Here's the link to nvidia's drivers download page:

Also, some people like the Omega drivers better than nvidia's:

I've got the latest nvidia drivers for it. Nearly all of my drivers have been recently updated to the latest ones.

The problem in your PAK files is caused by WindowsXP. I had the same problem, I had to install the game in another disk partition. Reinstalling it is one way to help

I have already reinstalled it once.
