well i have a new system for a week
is a p4 machine
the specifications are as follows

P4 2.4C with 800 mhz FSb
512 mb PC2700
Ati Radeon 9700pro
Asus P4P800
36 gb Raptor 10000 rpm harddrive
1 dvd/crw combo drive
Creative Audigy Soundblaster 2 sound card

well one of the issues is VC
i have all cars replaced with modded ones and i get momentarily freezes
which are annoying

i had a amd machine
asus A7N8x Deluxe board
1.2ghz tbird cpu
512 pc2100
same video/hd as the p4 machine

in that machine i had also replaced all cars and didnt get a freeze at all
also sometimes it happens in mafia
with a few freezes that last for a few seconds( like 1 or 2 secs)
do you think it has to do with the OS.
i haven test it with the rest of the games
i had the latest ati drivers, latest directx9 latest audigy drivers
one question though do intel has chipset drivers because i have no idea
ideas?

by the way both machines have/had windows 2000 pro
the motherboard has latest bios

thanks

Are you using windows default WDM drivers for your sound card?

Aztlan
12-29-2003, 01:39 PM
nope
i am using the drivers from the audigy 2 soundcard cd

thats why i am puzzle
thanks

and is the sound not choppy at all when you're playing VC?

Aztlan
12-29-2003, 01:53 PM
no not at all
the music plays without problems

when the hiccups occurs like for example breaking
the braking sound continues in the freeze but radio plays fine when these hiccups(spelling) occur

by the way this is the irq screen

i am guessing is the OS
i have heard that some motherboards dont get to well with 2000

It could very well be an OS problem. I've seen wierd things. Can you try XP on it?

Normally 2000 will make problems with very new motherboards.

Aztlan

yes i could try xp

my bro just bought xp pro for his machine
but wouldnt be that a problem
you know the activation thing

genesis
12-29-2003, 02:09 PM
yeah. Give it a try on XP and let me know if there is any difference.

Aztlan
12-29-2003, 02:13 PM
ok i will try it right now
just need to back up some few stuff
and i'll let you know in a whole while

Good luck man! but the game could also be choppy because you have a Tbird and pc2100 ram. This new rig should work really well and I have a urge to tell you to overclock this sob :D

Intel drivers for the chipset, yep there is.

Aztlan

Correction
the tbird machine didnt have choppy gameplay

this new p4 machine is having choppy gameplay
i just finish installing xp and the same thing happens
i think is either the sound card or the motherboard
but the motherboard works well, right now i have it a little oc
to 2.533 ghz hehehe

but the issue also happens at stock speeds
i am leaning more toward the soundblaster sound card
i am going to dl the latest drivers for it
are there other drivers for the audigy besides the ones from creative?

this shows me how nvidia's sound is far better than creative's (if issue is related to the sound)

also i dont have chipset drivers installed
it seems that it doesnt need it since it hasnt asked me

duh duh, [insert head banging wall here]

crap, damn it
i just looked at the cd of the motherboard again and it says "Intel Chiptset inf update program"
so guess what is that
the chipset drivers
now i dont have problems
lol lol
whats wrong with me, i suppose to know this stuff
"mental rule, check cd twice before opening mouth"
rofl

anyway i have it oc right now
is at 2.9 ghz with stock cooling
i will see how much i can oc it more :D
anyway i am going back to Windows 2000 pro

sorry for the double post
and for the incovenience

No problem, glad it worked out.

Yea, if you don't install your chipset drivers your computer is pretty much a cripple, during the build of this computer, i went ahead and benched marked each time and noticed that before and after the chipset drivers, I had at least a 3000 3dmark difference and also do remeber that the chipset drivers contro the AGP, IDE, USB, RAM, etc. Using stupid standard windows stuff won't cut it.

As for sound, Creative totally kicks Nv's Soundstorm if you have the Audigy 2 or better like the 2ZS. The first Audigy is neck and neck with the soundstorm as the ss can only support up to EAX2 while the newer 2ZS can now support EAX4. Also Nvidia has some crappy a$$ chipset drivers also, they skimp on the Fx series and now it's affecting the Nforce2 chipset (great isn't it?) might as well make a petition for ATI to start a motherboard chipset :D

well i have to totally disagree with you there

Nvidia's soundstorm Kick's creative's A$$
after testing and comparing them
the sound from nvidia's sounstorm is far better

peice of crap from creative's side
the sound is not good
the drivers s*ck, i tried to change the speaker setting and i got a blue screen
which is the first time i get that
i can tell the difference of sound quality and nivia's sound storm is bettern and i havent got driver problems from them
i miss my nforce2 system :(

hopefully they , nvida, makes soundcards based on that chipset

my speakers are klipsch 4.1 Thx certified
it helps me hear the difference in quality
thumbs up to Nvidia for the nforce2

i heard that nvidia was going to make sound cards, thats why they skipped the FX series
hopefully is true, i will be the first in line to buy them

You've compared the soundstorm with which Audigy? I know the soundstorm is better with the first Audigy, as for the 2 and the 2zs I think is better because of what? of EAX4 of course, since the soundstorm only is compatiable with EAX2 :( as for right now, nvidia has really f-ed up with there soundstorm audio drivers, in half of my games and all websites that have flash and such, my 4.1 logitech z560's rear speakers are dead, and this is for everyone that has a 4.1 system or uses a double jack sadly, I even heard a bunch of the 5.1 guys having this problem too. Nvidia better get there act together and fix this problem, as before there last set of drivers gave me static sounds during gaming and sometimes I even lost the sound, I thought it was the southbridge chip being to hot, so I threw on a active cooler on there and it helped just a tiny bit, as for the new drivers which killed my rear speakers, fixed the static problem and also killed my "ump" in the bass where I have now been using some betas that was been leaked by abit's website which has brought it back but hasn't fixed the rear speaker problems. I also like creative with there live drive, I always have some headphones connected to it so at night I can use then, I don't have to always plug them in everytime because it disables the front speakers :(

Also another reason why the soundstorm problems are happening is because almost all of the motherboard companies used the realtek codec instead of the recomended signtal or whatever it is that the prototype nforce 2 board was made, as the creative uses this and is really good cause of that. But of course soundstorm is great because with the mcp-t southbridge you have dolby digital encoding and with a nice set of speakers, logitech z680's are connect it to a Hi-Fi system you can have dobly surroundsound.

i was comparing the soundstorm with the audigy 2

music sounds bad with 4.1 speakers in the audigy2

as for the nvidia drivers i have no problem at all with them

my nforce2 motherboards are from Asus
A7N8X deluxe

and drivers have worked perfectly
so i guess is your motherboards manufacture fault for not using the required chipset

Asus also uses realtek codec... As the games that happens you probably never noticed cause you probably never bother to fix the frequency of the sound etc. As for you using the nvidia drivers, you were pobably just using the old ones that never had a problem as the newer ones fixed some other problems like the crappy IDE drivers but f-ed up the sound.

Oh wells... glad you have no problems. Too bad computer hardware can't be perfect clones of each other (of the good ones of course), that would be sweet. :D

Oh yea forgot to say

I say the best way to fix this issue with your P4 is to dump it for a AMD :w00t:
