Hi
I purchased MW2 for the PC 2 days ago and have been having fun playing online. So far I managed to become lvl 25.
However, today I joined a team deathmatch and everything started going weird. Everyone was running around FAR faster than normal. (Maybe this is a game setup option? Please say if it is) I only played for about 30 seconds before the game ended, and I left to the lobby. I noticed that I had unlocked tens and tens of killstreaks and things... When I checked, I had gone from lvl 25 to lvl 70 in 1 game!!
I did not cheat or use glitches, all I did was join that team deathmatch. I also do not want to be lvl 70. Is there any way to reverse the effects of this? Can I go back to being lvl 25? Or am I stuck at 70? I have stopped playing for now as it is unfair on everyone else. Has this happened to anybody before?
Any help you can provide would greatly appreciated.

Welcome To The Boards!
I believe that this is a variety of hack/cheat, which is able to affect all of the players in the same game as the original cheater - i.e. it boosts everyone to level 70.
This would also explain why everyone would appear to be running around very fast - another effect of the hack.
I don't think that it will cause you to be banned by VAC - though I cannot confirm that (it may pickup that a hack caused the level 70 increase). Someone else here may know more.....?
As for reverting back to level 25, this is not possible. However, you could go back to level 1 by prestiging.

Thank you for that info. A hack? Ugh, why do hackers have to ruin things for everyone...
I didn't get terribly far, so I wouldn't mind going back to lvl 1. I also didn't get far in the campaign. Is there a way to completely delete my save data?
Thankyou again

Since your name is linked to your steam account, you cannot erase the data. The best thing to do is start to prestige at level 1 again. This has happened to others as well. It seems you must kill a person who has the hack in a modified server, then you get 2.5 million XP and jump to level 70.
For the campaign, you can delete the files containing your progress.
..\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players\save
but this will not reset your achievements that are stored on Steam

yeah, i never understood why some people like to hack to higher levels. my friend got hacked purposely to level 1 10th prestige. i wouldnt do it; it makes it pointless and gives you no goals to achieve besides every title, challenge, etc.
however, the frustration associated with some of them (i'm looking at you PP2000/Javelin!!!) is too great.
once i reach level 70 10th prestige (if i get that far before the next CoD) I'll create a new account on PS3, and i'll play WaW on xbox (got it at release; still havent gotten to level 65...)
God I hope this doesn't happen to me. That would suck. I like levelling up.

Most definitely a hacked lobby man. When i get in those, i quit right away. They're no fun. I'd rather actually earn my level, camos, and guns.

sorry to hear that man...just prestige then you can start over!

Happened to me. I instantly knew it was a hacked server because I was playing domination, and it used the Rust map (not a domination map). When it started, it said something about "your daily XP boost", but stupidly I chucked a grenade becuse Rust is instant chaos, and then the one kill made me level up to 70.
I was pretty pissed off. I quit and prestiged. So annoying, as I was only level 55 and was halfway to completing some challenges I was after.

I was in a lobby where we were running around mad and jumping like maniacs, it was fun :)
A lot of people were begging the host to make them level 70 :)
