View Full Version : Boycott over for me

I signed the petition to urge IW to reconsider adding dedicated servers to Modern Warfare 2 and I resisted buying the game for seven weeks as a protest.

My whole clan (except me) bought the game and have been playing it since it launched. Every night I could see them playing on Steam and could not join them except for a few nights when we played in a COD5: World at War ladder match.

The whole point of the demand for dedicated servers was to keep the online community active. By not playing with my clanmates I was letting IW ruin my gaming life. The urge to associate with my online friends became too great and I decided to obtain the game. However, I still refused to give my money to IW or Activision and I also refused to pirate the game. So I found a seller on Ebay who got the game for Christmas and already had a copy. I paid $46 with free shipping.

So I got MW2 but IW-Activision did not record another sale and I got a 25% discount. The single player portion and Spec Ops is worth paying for (not worth $60 but worth something) and the multiplayer is worthless to me aside from the chance to interact with my buddies online.

So to all the boycotters. I support you and I think I maintained solidarity by not adding to the PC sales numbers. I plan on switching to another game as soon as my clan can get a dedicated server.

Thanks for reading and letting my clear my conscience.

I feel for ya Fab, at least you didn't add to the number sold. Your conscience is clear, even if it means there is another multi player out there :(

If your whole clan goes thats tough.

We have had several people join our clan lately - who continues to support the boycott - who were in clans that switched from either CoD4 or CoD5 to MW2. And they refused to do it so they left their clan.

Enjoy. But you know - I'm enjoying CoD5 - looking forward to the new Base Assult Mod - I even played the new Galatic Assult mod for CoD4 recently - great mod. So I've had no desire to play MW2 - especially knowing that none of these mods can exsist in the MW2 world.

My clan actually canceled their COD4 and 5 servers. So we have no home right now. Some of these guys I have been with for 5 years. I could not walk away easily or wait until April for the next game to come out.

There is an awkward steam way to stay together by having four or five of us join as friends then have a countdown on teamspeak for the rest of the clan to join on us just as the game is started so we can get into the same game. If someone else gets in there is no way to kick them. I think the system is OK for social type clans who just want to chat on TS and spend time together, but it is impossible for any competitive play, map exploration, or practice.
