A long, long time ago…
I can still remember
How dead silence used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could frag those noobies’ ass
And maybe they’d rage quit after a while
But October made me shiver
With every word Four Ought Two delivered
I.W. changed their mindset
The blogosphere was upset
I can’t remember if I cried
Were all these game blogs telling lies?
I wasn’t ready for the ride
The day Mod Warfare died.
So bye-bye, Call of Duty franchise.
When dedicated is so hated
Tourney, gaming will die
Before that day, we thought that things would be fine
Singin’ ,"This’ll be the game that I buy."
"This’ll be the game that I buy"
Did you think PC got too much love?
And users thought they were far above –
Things like a current gen console?
Do you need so much control –
With leveled play fields for the whole?
Why’d you leak important news this slow?
Well I know that you’re in love with Steam
But X-Fire still works it seems
With servers we can’t choose
Man we’ll all be singin’ the blues
The Internet had gone amok
Pre orders falling like Nintendo ducks
We all knew we were out of luck
The day Mod Warfare died
I started singin’
"Bye-bye, Call of Duty franchise."
When dedicated is so hated
Tourney, gaming will die
Before that day, we thought that things would be fine
Singin’ ,"This’ll be the game that I buy."
"This’ll be the game that I buy"
Now for years we’ve been here on our own
And mods get released by the drove
That’s how it’s supposed to be.
When Treyarch popped onto the scene
With a coat they borrowed from L4D
And a big sign that read "Come and see!"
Oh but while the sales were looking down
The ladders threw it to the ground
The leagues court had adjourned;
Cod-2 was to return!
To some this seemed a little harsh
But most thought it’d never leave a mark
But we got the bite and not the bark
The day, Mod Warfare died.
We were singin’
"Bye-bye, Call of Duty franchise."
When dedicated is so hated
Tourney gaming will die
Before that day, we thought that things would be fine
Singin’ ,"This’ll be the game that I buy."
"This’ll be the game that I buy"
Nuclear winter world left in splinters
Bethesda calmed us with a Fallout shelter
DLC was comin’ fast
Snipers and spies hiding in the grass
The players tried to idle round’ for hats
With inventory system on the sidelines in a cast
Everyone waited for C.O.D. news
As halos filled up TF2
Flag Runner made us dance
Oh you were waiting for your chance!
Silence fell across the field
The sickening plan finally revealed
Emoticons couldn’t be concealed
The day Mod Warfare died
We started singin’
"Bye-bye, Call of Duty franchise."
When dedicated is so hated
Tourney gaming will die
Before that day, we thought that things would be fine
Singin’ ,"This’ll be the game that I buy."
"This’ll be the game that I buy"
Bash and Slash gathered in one place
For a platform lost in cyberspace
With millions of worried fans
We all tuned in with a few left clicks
Let the hosts get through their introductory kicks
R. Bowling Tellin’ us about his plans
As the webcast played there on the page
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No company born in hell
Could make this bull**** sell!
And as the flame wars climbed throughout the night
Increasing attacks with increasing spite
The console fanboys laughed with delight
The day Mod Warfare died.
They were singin’,
"Bye-bye Call of Duty franchise."
When dedicated is so hated
Tourney gaming will die
Before that day, we thought that things would be fine
Singin’ ,"This’ll be the game that I buy."
"This’ll be the game that I buy"
When no one heard from Four o’ two
We looked to Blizzard for some news
But they just smiled and turned away
I went on to some CEVO boards
Where I competed years before
But the mods there said they just couldn’t play
And in the servers, the players screamed
Map makers cried, and modders steamed
No words typed out, or spoken
Could make the game unbroken
The genre I admired the most
Was quickly fading into a ghost
To own the game - but not the host
The day Mod Warfare died.
And we were singing,
"Bye-bye, Call of Duty franchise."
When dedicated is so hated
Tourney, gaming will die
Before that day, we thought that things would be fine
Singin’,"This’ll be the game that I buy."
"This’ll be the game that I buy"
They were singing,
"Bye-bye, Call of Duty franchise."
If dedicated so hated
Tourney gaming will die
Before that day, we thought that things would be fine
