Some interesting facts for ya about tobacco.
It is the most powerfull natural insecticide in the world. It will deworm livestock & humans too.
In the old days (say a hundred or so years ago) If you were sick they would make tabocco soup and feed it to you. This would give you a high fever and sometimes kill viral infections and as I mentioned kill tape-worms, round worms and several other intestinal parasites.
There are more carcinogens in tabacco than any other natural substance known.
Clinical studies have shown that tabacco is more addictive than Heroine, Crank or Crack cocane.
Nasty stuff stay away from it if ya have not done it yet. And if you are on it get off before ya get addicted bad.

I mean did you not read my post? Tabacco is more addicting than HEROIN or CRACK COCAINE or CRANK SPEED WOW!! I'm glad your not my kid LOL j/k well mostly B)
Your poor dad I bet he has tried to cut down but it is so addicting it is terrible believe me I quit after almost 40 yers of smoking in fact they used to call me Smoke Stack.
It was the hardest thing I ever did so give your dad some morale support and positive rienforcement and he may make it off of the real killer weed :D
Unfortunately yes, but not often. About a pack a week. Camel lights are my brand. I wan't to quite before I become heavily addicted though. I figure it will be much easier that way. It is still hard though. After smoking other not so legal things :tweet: (it's not crack, I'm not that dumb) a cigarette is quite good. Also it is hard to be drunk and not have a cig in my hand.

That's a nice discussion i started... Well I've been smoking for about 10 years now. Yes I started under-age. I was in a place where 9 year olds smoke so I was good.
Since then I'm trying to quit but it's too terribly hard on me. I also work a high stress job n all so that all adds up to it.

 That is rather scary to me. I had my first one whe I was 13. That was too young as it is. I think I am to young for it at 16 right now, but as you said its tough to stop.
Good luck with quiting gen, I hope you do it :)

I think I'm gonna have to do it because it's starting to cause me problems, health problems like difficulty breathing in winter n stuff. Obviously initial signs of it but yeah, signs.
It seems like its already affecting my health and I barely even smoke. I just notice a shortness of breath and a constant cough.

Well maybe I shouldn't post this info but I started smoking when I was old enough to crawl up on my Grandpas knee.
My Grandpa was a WW1 vet and he also was a redneck from Kentucky and when I would climb up in his lap he would let me smoke his Dutch Master cigar. He would also let me have drinks of his whiskey.
I can remember him saying let him have as much as he wants it will make a man out of him.
You have to remember he grew up in the late 1800's and that was the way they raised boys in those days.
So needless to say I started smoking regularly at a very early age ( aboout 5) and in those days a pack of Marlboros was only about 15 cents plus I could always get a cigar from my gramps.
When I quit I was going through a pack and a half to 2 packs of camels a day. Plus I chewed about a can (of regular Copenhagen) a day and went through several good cigars ( I used to get these Nicaraguan cigars came a 100 in a box for only $130.00 a box lasted most of a month) I still crave those cigars man were they tasty the only cigar I ever had that was better was a hand rolled Cuban at a wedding once.
My oldest son used to have asthma (he grew out if it eventually) and so since it affected him so bad I was able to quit because of him.
I am telling you I was so addicted it wasn't funny I went through an 8 or 9 month period of complete physical withdrawal symptoms. Not to mention the psychological stress.
I went from sleeping 4 to 6 hours a night to sleeping like 14 hours. I was actually late for work several times in one month and I had never been late to work in my life before that But I just didn't hear the alarm. I was so tired and it was from getting off of ciggys because that was the only thing I had changed in my life.
After about 8 or 9 months I got back to my regular self basically but it was really almost 2 years later before I could quit craving them constantly.
So good luck to all who are quitting you can do it if you really want to but ya have to WANT to as it is such a severe addiction

I only smoke when I play paintball. Only because it lowers my heart rate. My paintballs still don't shoot straight *waits for laughter and jokes  *. Maybe because it's so high powered ;) i used to smoke a pack a day though.

I don't smoke (I am only 15 ;) ). It is a dirty habit. Someone mentioned 11 year old smokers, which I think is really sad. These 11 year olds do not yet have the brainpower to make a fully informed decision to do it or not, they are probably just copying what their parents do.
I don't have a problem with smokers, as long as they don't breathe in my face and not smoke in front of their children.

yes, shame on you all. you dont know how piss-weak it sounds saying "oh im gonna give up" from an outsider's point of view. i've never smoked, and dont plan on smoking ever in my life. a quick smoke reduces stress? a few quick smokes could result in death. what would you rather, be stressed out for a while or die of cancer?

I smoked from the age of 12 to 42 - - - yup 30 years...I just couldn't breath anymore had to give it up...but I loved it, especially at the cottage around a camp fire with my favorite beverage. About the bans, I think it is good that they ban smoking in restaurants. This may be different in the states since i live in Germany. In bars, it's just natural that people smoke there, so if there would be a ban in bars, then the bars would lose lots of income.
imported_Aesir
07-05-2005, 09:14 AM
well i agree with you there but its not like people go to bars just to smoke... couldnt they do it in there own area?

Well, those that want to ban smoking, better get ready to put their hands in their pockets to help the NHS survive. Copied this from www.notpoliticallycorrect.co.uk
"Firstly let me say, I know smoking is bad and I know one day it will kill me, but it’s my choice and I am fed up with the bloody politically correct do gooders bleating on about it.
Yesterday there was an article in the media in which it was stated that smoking related illnesses cost the NHS £240 million a year in the South, so bloody what!!!!!!! Without smokers the NHS would collapse. So let me give you some facts based upon there being 20 million people living in the South and 25% of them smoke, and because they are southern poofters most of them smoke Silk Cut.
The retail price of a packet of Silk Cut is currently around £5.05 of which £3.85 goes to the Exchequer, if they only smoke 20 a day that’s a revenue stream of £19,250,000 every single day. This totals SEVEN THOUSAND MILLION a year, yes £7 billion and that’s just in the South!!!!!!!!. So don’t go bleating that smokers shouldn’t be treated in hospitals, they should be given the red carpet, private rooms, a gourmet menu and maybe even lapdancers.
So the government are thinking of banning smoking in pubs, clubs and offices. This is just another classic example of government intervention and the Nanny State.
The legislation is shrouded in this myth that it is meant to protect non-smoking employees, which puts me straight back on to my personal responsibility soapbox. If you don’t find working in a smoky environment to your liking, then we don’t have to make a law about it, just don’t take a job in a place that allows smoking.
Let the market dictate, if there was a massive demand for non-smoking pubs then some clever businessman would have cleaned up by now. If the pub up the road allows smoking and you don’t like it, then don’t go there. Nobody is forced to go to a smoking pub and nobody is forced to work there either.
It is just completely stupid and I wish our Government could work out that they should have better things to do. Their Health and Safety people would be better placed addressing the dangers of entering a hospital, which sounds like it is a bigger health risk than going down the local pub.
We have the Government trying to ban the distasteful activity of smoking, which is after all legal. Meanwhile Councils are giving out condoms to 12 year olds and encouraging an illegal activity, what on earth is happening to this country. I’m not that old (edit I am lol) but I wish we could go back to the old days, forget all these laws, if you have a job and the boss treats you badly, just leave and get another job, if you want to work in a pub, but you don’t like the atmosphere find another pub to work in. The laws in this country are sucking the cash out of industry, what with sex discrimination, race discrimination, disabled discrimination and all the others its getting pretty damned difficult to employ anyone without getting sued."
So, all you non-smokers out there, pat me on the back and buy me a drink. You owe me one for keeping the NHS going.

Lol Kokanee. Actually, about 12 years ago, i gave it up for 2 n a half years. So you never know, I might just do it again.
I'm 53 years old, had my first smoke at 6 years and smoked regular from 13 years, smoked 20 a day from about 16 years, increase that to 30 a day after my 2 n a half year break.
Any non-smokers here that arre even thinking about trying it - DON'T. In that 2 n a half years, I could breathe better and my stamina improved. The food also tasted better to the tune of 56 pounds and no, starting again did not cause me to lose it again.
