hey
need your help
*crys*
The computer will boot up until its time for windows to load, then it will blink off(lovly windows Xp) an reboot.
Then it gives me an option to boot up normally, safe mode, last knowen config, safe mode networking.
none will work. it simply wont load windows.
but it will boot up until its time for windows to load, you know bios loads fine. so i put the xp cd in, but it will not activate so i can boot from the cd
i'm not sure what senquence the boot up in bios is suppose to be.
but if i cant get the cd to work i cant reformat if i needed to. I had 2 errors today, which i lost my internet connection but each time i reboot the internent came back, 3rd time it happend i rebooted an windows disc check(scan disc) came up an restored orphan files to the directory, wtf is a orphan file
so now I'm gonna crack the case see if my vid card is fallen out or something is not pluged in..
let me know ur thoughts.

What exactly are you system specs? genesis (who will be online soon) is of more use than me, so I would wait for him to come online if you want serious help :)

Sorry for being late, Blade is just overrating my knowledge but I'll help you as much as I can.

Now this sounds like a software problem rather than hardware, if your vid card was not sitting down correctly, it would either not show display at all or work fine, there's no middle line in 99% of the cases.

Anyways, initially the first thing that came to my mind was the recently affecting virus where your computer would reboot as soon as it boots up but that doesn't sound like what you're explaining. I'll need more details though.

Step by step would be much helpful, like do you get the login screen at all or not, do you get to see the desktop at all or not?

In either case I'm afraid you'll end up reformatting the drive and installing xp again but please give me as much bootup sequence detail as possible.

Hmmm so when the windows bootup screen kinda fades in, it just restarts? and you can't get into safemode?

Are you overclocking?

How long has this rig been running fine? do you remember anything you did then had to restart for some reason then it started?

If you do need to reinstall xp, you will need to goto your Advance BIOS Features, goto the first bootup device and set it to your cdrom drive, after that save and restart. After the main bios posting it should be like booting cd...... press any key to boot from cd. If you want, you can give it a shot by doing a windows repair instead of actually formating it again if you want to save data, it might not work but you can give it a shot if you got time.

To do this, just let it go through the normal procedure, then it will be like "detecting any previous install of windows" then it will show xp, pick it then press that one letter to do the repair. :D

ok step bt step, but first

For 6 weeks now my computer gets slow when its on for to long, then it would crash, windows just shut off an reboots..then on reboot it would give me an error report then send me to Microsoft telling me what the problem they think is..an an option to "track this report" it said it was a device driver error. so i thought it was the vid card..I updated it from 55.03 t0 56....(latest driver out..) an still the comp would slow down an even crash , it would crash will playing COD or any type of program of the gaming online or not..

Then yesterday I tryed to use Microsoft word an 3 words It would encounter a problem an close..so i gave up, an played COD ..I would play for a half hour then lose Internet an would have to exit, I called the cable company they said everything is fine, pinged few sites an no packet loss, then I gave it a rest, left it on, did the yard stuff like that.

then my pops got on it tryed to do some work( emial stuff) an the start menu started to pop up on its own, other things where happening, He called me an i saw the system seemed to be lagged out i told him to reboot it..an he did.

this is what happens
it will boot up i can get into the bio's.
it will start to load windows (windows screen with loading bar)then it will reboot it ,will only start to load windows for about 3 seconds then reboot itself.
then it will boot an give me a option list with a paragraphs saying sorry an maybe you can do these options::it will not let me go into any safe mode or last known config or even start normally (those are the options)

UPDATE::::

I have changed the boot sequence so it would boot from the cd-rom.
I found out you dont use recovery console you enter windows setup THEN press "R" to repair windows.

This did not work it still loads windows until the log on screen is SUPPOSE to appear but it just blinks off an reboots i never see the log on screen.

Ant suggestions besides re-install windows?

Ok this is likely a hardware issue now. Like bl0ss0m asked you, have you OC'd the system at all? Are the fans working? Are you putting the system on the ground? put something under it, if that's the case.

But likely it's a hardware problem. The error report you got when windows booted up, it should have the name of the device it's having problems with, easy enough if you read it.

Hm pull out the video card, cpu, and memory, reseat them all and try it again.

Also when your loading into safemode, at which file does it just stop?

thankyou for your help..but i dont want to be rude

I do not overclock my pc's.
I cant get into any windows app's or safe mode as stated above, in all threads..

My vid card is seated fine as i ran throught it before posting my problem here, Cpu is fine but was really dusty but now its all clean, all connections are seated an where there suppose to be.

I do not have my tower on the ground, thats kinda backyard hillbilly to me..the error report i have got before my computer would not boot up at all an crash at log on screen or i should say would be the next screen to pop up next after windows loading is done. the error was a device driver an it never stated which device.

UPDATE::::::::::: i have now refomated the computer an reinstalled Windows Xp after an hour if installation it seems to be fine, but i have not even started installing driver's from scratch..we will see what happens.

I know my problem was hard, It gave me a head ache..I have stated alot of things in each post that could eb confuseing, but.....easy enough if you read it -eh genesis?

But thankyou for your help i will keep you posted.

There was enough information for "General Computer chat" forum. Glad it's now working.

I reformated an partition my hard drive i suppose you have to delete the old partition so I did..

as soon as i was done i formated the unallocated section which is now labeled (E:) i Installed drivers so on.. then went to windows update an then got the blaster/nitch worm so I fixed that now i have this problem..

I tryed installing my firewall to E: drive it said you chosen a root directory, please select another path
so i put it in C: drive.(windows is there)
an the icon wouldnt show up in the tool bar or at least stay in the tool bar, Nor would it start the fire wall engine.
so it wont run or operate in C:drive an it wont let me install it in E:drive beacuse its a root Directory,it says, please select another path
so I'm rappin to you on this compaq until I get it fix.
...and my CPU useage is at 100% at all times, at Idle.

I HAVE A VERY BIG HEAD ACHE NOW.

well

Root Directory is this

Local disc D:

well you can't install by clicking that above you have to make a folder in D: an put the program in the folder.

e.g
Local Disc D:
+Program files 2

if you just have Local disc D: nothing will install to that because windows see's that as a root directory.

So i made a folder got my firewall to install, now its my belife that if one app- installs so will the others..

So in case anyone has this problem like this they can search for it..I suppose its above the normal "General Computer chat"-right genesis?

So which partition is your windows installed in? how many other partitions do you have? Your confusing me with the last two post.

ah ok..um

the first time i partitioned I Just did one partition, of course it automaticly names the drive C:,D:,F: so on, an last drive would be your CD-rom in most cases..I didnt continue i just installed windows.

I have a 80 gig harddrive, i did a partition for 20,000mb(2gig) for windows which it named C:

well i didnt partition the rest of the drive, so i just formted it in windows which in Xp does not work. you can only format a partition section in windows, you have to Partition in Setup of Xp or DOS or it wont work right if you do, windows set-up will format what ever partition windows is going to be installed on..the other partition you have to format in Disk Management..

So i went back, started from scratch, deleted the partition I made a new partition again 20,000mb (2 gig) for C: then did the other partition for the rest of the drive( 55gigs or so) which is now D: left 8mb unallocated which is for buffer reasons, before when i just did one partition(C:) it left my CD- rom as D: an named the rest of the drive space E:- so now E: is D: I didnt know each partition gets a letter, when you partition in Windows Set-up. (C: ,D:,E: so-on)

So after all this my Fire wall still would not install into what is NOW drive D: when i was installing the firewall it would confirm to install on drive C: program files ,I would click browes an choose Local Disc D:.

Well you cant choose the drive letter (Local disc D: ) because there is no files in that drive its totally empty, so you have to make a folder then install the application to that folder on drive D:.(e.g Program files 2)

Then you are able to assign applications to the drive letter
(Local disc D:) because there is now information on the section of the drive (drive D:)

Ok.. it sounds like your trying to teach me how partitioning works. Just to let you know I know how it works, I have 10 partitions over 400gigs of harddrive space (not to brag) lol.

When you say E is D now did you change the drive letters in manage or was it auto assigned. You are really confusing me.

imported_BaLLy
03-25-2004, 11:27 PM
if you know how partitioning works then you know when you partition in Windows set-up it auto assign's the drive letter..

I 'm not trying to teach you anything, sorry for being long winded..my fault..

But i have explained this matter a clearly as i could

I installed 2 times

first time i didnt partition what was left of the drive after the C: partition I just installed installed windows

Second time I started from scratch again, but this time partitioned what was left after the C: partition the 2nd partition automaticly named it D:

on the first try I didnt partition what was left from C: partition there was no assignment letter but after install of windows it named it E:

one the second try as i explained couple lines up I partitioned what was left after C: partition, it automaticly assigned the rest of that partition D:

The computer works now...works better then before..10 times better...

but I didnt know when you partition , then install windows, then reformat the other part of the drive that windows is not installed on (D:) <-- If there are no files on that drive, you have to make a folder before installing anything to that drive because clicking that drive letter to install a application will fail, it say's "you have chosen a Root Directory please choose another path" it was not until i made a folder an installed the application that i was able to install other applications to the drive by clicking the drive letter (install D:\).

Sorry if i seem rude, I work 14 hrs days, sometimes i dont make sense..An I'm very tired.
