Calling all CoD2 players!
The CoDBoards CoD2 server has been re-configured to TDM.
The server name is "CoDBoards.com CoD2 Server" and the IP is
8.9.11.4:28960
The server is located in Chicago, Illinois, USA

This server belongs to all of you CoDBoard members. Take advantage of it, and enjoy!
If it doesn't show in your browser, you can go to it directly by typing the following into the console:
/connect 8.9.11.4:28960

Currently the server is configured as follows:
TDM – All of the stock maps
Friendly Fire – OFF
PunkBuster – Enabled
Shotguns – Disallowed
Frag Grenades - Enabled
Smoke Grenades – Disabled
Score Limit – 300
Time Limit – 20minutes
Anti-Lag – ON
KillCam - ON
However, we are open to suggestions from CoDBoard members that play on the server regularly.

I propose the following:
Each evening at 9:00 PM eastern time, (8:00 PM Central, 7:00PM Mountain, 6:00PM Pacific) - whatever Time Zones that equates to around the world, that we meet up for a few good games. If we want to see this server become a success and continue to be available to us, we need to utilize it and get a regular base of players that frequent it often.
It’s up to us. I can’t guarantee that I’ll always be on at this time, but I’ll try.
Feel free to jump on at any time that's convenient for you. If no one is on, hang around a few minutes…….

Thats 2am in the UK, 3am in Europe.

Lol - keeping you guys up rather late! :icon_cool:

Okay, how about 2 designated time periods each day?

9:00 PM EDT/-4 GMT for Eastern US and
9:00 PM BST/+1 GMT for UK, 10:00 PM Europe (4:00 PM EDT)

So, if you US guys want to play when your UK and European brethen are on, jump on around 4:00 pm EDT.....

I'm interested, but allow the shotgun plz. Just note the admin(s) should watch everyone using that noob cannon and tell them to stop using the shotgun after getting 10 kills with it.
The shotgun is awesome, but overuse ruins the game, I know, so reducing its use, not eliminating it, will do the trick.

I'll have to install CoD2 to my Vista, and download the patches I guess, but I am interested.

Hey MR, can you let your son know about this and ask him to duel me? I'm interested in beating him since you yourself said you don't like CoD2 because of the lack of HoB for it. If he does come, I'll need to know his screenname so that I'll recognize him.

Boy, CB, you should have put up a poll for nights we can make it. But I can be on about 7:30 pm Friday nights and maybe Saturdays as well. This will mean I'll bedividing my time between CoD2 and CoD4, but lol to that.

Where should we provide feedback on desired changes?

Who else is going to join me and CB on that CoD2 server?

My son was a War Craft addict but he has moved on to bigger and better things, such as cars and girls and doesnt play much, and never played CoD at all.

It would be pretty difficult for an admin to tell how many kills a person makes with a shotgun or any specific weapon for that matter, without spec'ing them. Suppose the person makes some of their kills with grenades, pistol, bashing or another weapon they picked up? And how about the ppl that are making kills with shottys that they picked up off the ground? You would need an admin for each person using a shotgun to spec each of them. Not practical, I'm afraid.

The times I put up are times that I can usually be on. Feel free to jump on whatever times/days are convenient for you.

Where should we provide feedback on desired changes?
You can post suggestions for desired changes here. Be advised that we are not going to implement changes every time somebody suggests something.
First of all, for a change to be even considered it must come from someone that is playing on the server frequently. Then if the majority of "regulars" agree with the suggestion, and the CoDBoards staff agree, the change will be implemented.

However, some changes can be made temporarily "on the fly" during a game. For instance, if someone requests a map change, a change of gametype, or *gasp* enabling the shotgun or smoke, and an admin is on - a temporary change can be made, if ALL players agree.

I never even knew we had a CoD2 server. If enough people play on it I'd be glad to buy the game. And about the shotgun, I don't really see why any weapons should be un-allowed.

That's probably because you've not played CoD2 TDM - lol. :icon_cool:

But seriously, ppl tend to abuse the shotgun in TDM. They run around in groups of 2, 3, or 4 and do this jump-shoot thing with it. Either that or they lay in a dark corner, top of stairs, at corners of buildings, alleyways, etc. and blast people soon as they turn the corner.
Very annoying, unrealistic, and makes the game unenjoyable.
IMO - that kind of stuff is for Unreal Tournament, Quake or Doom. :icon_evil:

Also, I wouldn't have such a problem with the shotgun if it wasn't so overpowered. But, it's pretty much an instant one shot kill from a very far distance. Takes little or no skill.

But, that's just my opinion - others may disagree....:icon_twisted:

It's true I hate shotun noobs, I'd kick them if they refuse to change their weapon. With me, I was a more general--I'd have the shotung as backup in addition to my thompson, BAR, mp40, mp44, garand, pps42, or rifle. I usually didn't spend a lot of time on the shotgun unless I was indoors, because that's where it shines.

But I agree with CB that temporarily allowing the shotgun should be an unanimous vote. Thing is, it's kind of overpowered voting like that over a weapon that only noobs abuse, and a well-adminned server is something that can stop it anyway.

If need be, I can keep track on whoever is using shotgun and say publicly when they hit 10 kills. If they don't keep track themselves. Thing is, I won't be able to be that good tracking their kills if I'm in a harrowing fight myself.

Might be we simply don't bother with the "noob cannon" at all. lol

The headset I use doesn't have a mic - It's a Sony that is very comfortable and has good sound - that's why I like it. I do have a Logitech headset with a mic someplace. I'll have to look for it. It's not as comfortable or as good as the Sony, tho.

Ah, MR is playing CoD2, and the server is popular from the number of posts made since last i checked this thread.

Well, I got CoD2 installed and running SP with no trouble. All PB updates for CoD2 are in place, I'll have to come on the server.

I hope you are not running any custom maps btw. And I'll take a beer so that I can wet my bullets for drunk targets like CB and MR :icon_wink:

I didnt say i loved it, i said we had some good games. Personaly the game play of CoD2 in general and lack of HoB leaves a bit to be desired in my eyes, but im never against "takeing one for the team" to help rebuild the codboards CoD2 community.

Ah, so you mean you were on for some good game rounds. You still have a bit more you'd like to see in CoD2 in the future.

Thing is, saying you're not against helping to rebuild the CoD2 community is another way of saying "I will play CoD2 online with the CoDB mems and guests and all if that helps rebuild CoD2 since it's outclassed by CoD4."

I think I'm getting this right.

Will be on when this is solved. http://codboards.com/showthread.php?p=200507#post200507 Thanks for helping. :)

KillCam was on until recently. I decided to give it a try with it off for a while.
There are pros and cons each way - and naturally some prefer it on, while others prefer it off....

We can try turning Fog off and see how ppl like it...

The server seems to have 2 or 3 peak times when ppl play on it. ~ 5:00pm, 9:00pm and 12:00am EDT. However, if one of us (CoDBoard members) doesn't sit on it to get it started, it doesn't get going....:icon_sad:

Fair enough with the killcam. I highly suggest turning fog off though... it really does nothing except lower FPS and annoy people, I mean if this was a realism server you'd have a case for leaving it on... but there's just no pros to it.

I also noticed that the map rotation is pretty iffy. If it just every CoD2 map? If that's so, you need to change it. Take out some of the more open maps that no one really likes and leave the smaller maps. I mean the server has around 16 people at most and some maps are just way to big for this amount such as Stalingrad, Beltot, Decoy and possibly Trainstation and Breakout (I'd rather you leave those two in). But I highly suggest removing the first three.

CosmicBlue

KillCam we might try putting back on after a while.
Personally, I rarely look at it because I like the challenge of figuring out where my "killer" is. I do find it useful when you get killed by someone that you didn't expect, and you're like - wtf! But, then you see on killcam that it was actually someone else that killed you, like maybe a sniper.
I never use it as a means to determine if someone is aimbotting because it is so darn inaccurate due to lag..... actually, that is one of the reasons that I turned it off - n00bs were accusing ppl of hacking based on killcam views - "I watched the killcam, you weren't even close!" or "I saw you staring at a wall in killcam" (doh - maybe he was afk for a sec to take a drink?) - wah, wah, wah :icon_eek:

With KillCam off the game seems to play at a faster pace because ppl don't stop to watch the cam after every death.

Do you know how to turn off fog? I tried using these two commands, but neither did the trick:
set scr_allow_ambient_weather "0"
set sv_r_fog "0"

I wonder if you can only turn off Fog with the PAM or AWE mods?

Yes - all of the stock maps are running. I'm reluctant to take any of them out because one person's dislikes are another's likes. For example, I love Beltoit and Stalingrad, whereas you don't - lol. I do agree with you about Decoy, tho. But, some like it. I'm surprised that you didn't mention Brecourt - one of the largest, open maps. I like Brecourt when there are 8 or more ppl on - less than that and it gets a bit boring.....

Hopefully, we'll get to a point where there is frequently 16 or more players on...:icon_biggrin:

btw - good to see you on last night - sorry I had to leave early (had to get up at 5:30 am this morning) :icon_sad:

Well I guess I see your point in the killcam department, but I just like to watch it to see really nice shots.. the point of the killcam. I mean if you're laying in one spot with a sniper rifle, you don't deserve to get those kills anyway. It's just a terrible way to play the game. And odds are, by time the kill cam's done they aren't in that spot anymore..

PAM mod takes off the fog and barely anything else in TDM (limits to 1 nade per player which is also a great upgrade) so I highly suggest you put it on.

As for Brecourt, I love the map especially in CoD1 because there isn't really anywhere to hide unlike Beltot and those awful maps. Beltot for example is wide open but there's so many nook and crannies where noobs just sit in and get unskilled frags. Trainstation is another map like this however this one actually worked out for competitive SnD unlike Beltot which I don't think ever was played on besides TWL, lol.

I guess you just won't see me in the server during the maps that I mentioned =P. The prime TDM and DM maps are:
Toujane
Burgundy
Carentan
CoD_Harbor
Matmata

Obviously this won't happen, but that's my dream ;)

CosmicBlue

Good points!
Regarding the maps, I guess it mainly depends on personal preference and playing style. I used to be pretty much a sniper on most maps, and an MP44 guy on a few others. But, over the past couple of months, I've forced myself to try and use all of the weapons on various maps - some of which I really suck with - lol!
But, I play for fun, not score - so it's all good! :icon_biggrin:

Anyway, I'd like to leave all of the stock maps in rotation, cuz as I said, everyone has personal favs and dislikes. Personally, I enjoy a game of CTF once in a while, but every time we ask the players about playing the next map as CTF, there are always some that adamantly object - "You can't please all of the ppl, all of the time...." But, I've considered making a couple of the maps in the rotation CTF - maybe Brecourt and Rostov (Harbor)

I'll take a look at putting the PAM mod back on. It's actually still in the server config - I didn't remove it. I just "remmed" it out, just in case we ever wanted to put it back on. So, it'll be easy to do.....

Sounds great to me! We've been doing it, but I think if there's 6 or less players it should be left on DM so there's a bit more action, I mean 3v3 tdm is extremely boring unless it's on Toujane and even then... It seemed to be working out nicely yesterday.

07-16-2008, 05:46 PM
I made some changes to the CoD2 server this morning:

Put the PAM Mod 2.04 back on. But, changed it from CAL Match Mode to PAM PUB Mode.

I found that the PAM CAL Match Mode does not remove Fog in TDM. It only removes Fog if running S&D. However, I experimented with different PAM modes and discovered that in PAM PUB mode, if I added the following lines, I could remove Fog, Dust, Fire, Smoke and Ambient sounds (distant explosions, fire crackle and that annoying rat-ta-tat-tat gunfire).

//Weather Fog, Snow, Dust
set scr_allow_ambient_weather "0"

//Fog
set sv_r_fog "0"

//Ambient Fire
set scr_allow_ambient_fire "0"

//Ambient sounds
set scr_allow_ambient_sounds "0"

It looks and sounds real "clean" now. That dust, smoke and fire always did bother my "old" eyes.....:icon_biggrin:
So, we'll give it a try like this, and see how it's received.

I also turned KillCam back on.

The problem with leaving the server in DM mode is that if more than 6 or so ppl get on, unless an Admin is on, it won't get changed back to TDM.

We could really use more participation from CoDBoard members to keep this server populated. The most popular servers are the servers that are kept active by the server's clan members - that draws in other players.

Good suggestions, "17" - Thanks! :icon_biggrin:

That's prolly because we were on Carentan, which doesn't have fog, dust, burning tanks, fire or smoke. You will definitely notice the difference on maps like Matmata, Breakout (Villers-Bocage), St. Mere-Englise, etc.

No more pesky fog, smoke or noises! :icon_cool:

That's prolly because we were on Carentan, which doesn't have fog, dust, burning tanks, fire or smoke. You will definitely notice the difference on maps like Matmata, Breakout (Villers-Bocage), St. Mere-Englise, etc.

No more pesky fog, smoke or noises! :icon_cool:

Nah, we figured out that it was because PAM is different for TDM and SD for some reason :icon_biggrin:

Yes - that's if it's set to PAM CAL Match Mode.
But, I discovered that if I put it in PAM Pub Mode, and add those parameters above......it works!
No more Fog, Dust, Smoke, Fire or Ambient sounds. :icon_biggrin:
You may not notice it on maps like carentan, which don't have those effects, but you will on other maps like Matmata or Villers-Bocage. Look at the MG placement by those pegs we were jumping on - normally there's a dust storm there - now there's no dust! Also, look at the tanks on Villers-Bocage - normally burning and spewing billows of smoke - now the're not! :icon_biggrin:

Now we just need regular players =]

If we can't populate the server regularly on TDM, I'd suggest maybe DM, and see how that goes. It seems as though more people connect when we're playing DM.

Actually, we used to have several regulars that played TDM on our server.
Kufurendamnstrasse, Kassela, JeffModule, Johnyonthespot, Almirante, Jessica, Oprah, Kingpin, Burnt Toast, Jen, The Claw, Thunderstick, etc.

None of which I have seen since we put the PAM mod on........
I'm concerned that we've lost them cuz they prolly have their filters set to Mods = No. I've always had mind set to No......

But, it really is nice without all that dust, fog and smoke......:icon_razz:

btw - I hate DM :icon_evil: :icon_eek: :icon_redface: :icon_biggrin:

I haven't solved the problem of, with PAM mode on, if you change gametype to DM it stays DM and stuck on same map. I had some ideas and was working on it the other night when the Master Server went down. I wasted a lot of time thinking the changes I made had made our server inaccessible. I backed out all my changes finally - when I still couldn't get to our server, I tried others. That's how I knew the Master had gone down......:icon_sad:
I'll give it another try when I have the time.....

Server was just hoppin but the less popular maps are really killing it.. everyone leaves when we go to decoy, moscow, beltot, etc...

The PAM Mod has been removed.
With PAM on our server ranking dropped from 76th percentile to 58th percentile in 9 days. None of our regular players were seen on the server during that time.
Last night, after removing the PAM mod, several of our regulars found us - Kufur, Johnyonthespot, Thunderstick, etc. They remarked "where have you been - the server go down?" They didn't find us because they filter on Mods = No.

So, as much as I liked it without fog, dust, smoke, fire, etc. - it's not worth it to lose our regulars....

Also, I was able to fix the problem of the maps not rotating in DM gametype, so now they rotate as they should in both TDM and DM.

I guess they don't know how to use Xfire or a server favorites list :icon_sad:

Sadly not everyone is smarter than the avarage bear.

However some might not use xfire or ASE ect ect.
