I have posted this same thread in another forum long time ago...

Well, your usernames, sreen names, nicknames, whatever you want to call them... How did you get it? What does it mean? How long have you used it ect.

humanvirus,
Mine isn't not very interesting, it was when I first got AOL dialup when I lived in London, I wanted a name to do with computers, "virus" then I realised what I was, "human" so I just put the two together and I've been humanvirus for roughly 5 years now. I'll never change. :)

When I used to play Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I used to call myself 'Nick', but I got bored of that so I decided to call myself Bladerunner, but then changed it to 'Blade', because I thought Bladerunner was too long. :)

palags means sheet from latvian. About 0,5 years ago i wanted to change my nick and i just wrote the first thing that came to my head. Before that i had nicnames bl00dsal+ and c0ma. Now i have a nickname(palags) that i like and its simple and short. If i'll change it, i will change it to 14f13. 14f13 means "life unworthy of life". For SS this was a method of killing people by injecting phenole poison into the victims heart. Now 14f13 is my COD clan but with 1 member(me) :D i don't think it has a big future but whatever :)

I am a decendant of the original Gordon Highlanders, the bravest fighting clan of moderen history. Many regiments have spawned from it. I take the inspiration for my name from my father who was a large man that threw the caber and fought like the Gordon's of old. He passed away a couple of years ago. It's kindof a tribute to him. I try to game like he would fight. ;)

A long time ago back in the Unreal Tournament days, way back when i only had dialup. I would play as Tael. Tael is a name from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's mask. i thought it was cool so i used it. Tael was great, when i got dsl i joined a zp ig clan. I was in it for about a half year. But then i was asked to tryout for MoNK by the almighty Cucumber (clan founder/leader). I tried out and everyone thought i was the best and they immediately let me in. so i left my old clan. After 2 weeks of playing for MoNK, i realized the name Tael was old and boring, so i changed it to Gryphon, for it is the mythological creature with a bird's head and wings, and a cats body. I have always been fascinated by mythological creatures so it was a toss-up between chimera and gryphon, but i already knew someone named chimera, yet knew no one named gryphon. I have been Gryphon ever since, but when in irc or what-not, people tend to call me gryph, so i just used that simple name when i registered on these boards. I did go through a phase when i started playing as Musouka, which is Japanese for dreamer, it was the title of one episode of some anime, i forgot which though lol.

I used to have my email and everything as nodnarb, which is my name (Brandon) backwards. But when i first started playing CoD i would always snipe, so when the enemy got really close i was forced to use my pistol, so i got really good at close combat with them. I even occasionally used my pistol even when i had an automatic weapon, just to make my victims feel inferior. One time, in the middle of a game, after doing really well using just a Luger, i changed my name to The Lugerer, and that's what it's been ever since. (Yeah, it could have been The Colt .45er, but that's doesn't sound near as cool.)

Apex
03-13-2004, 05:25 PM
Back when i was but a mere teen (which could have been yesterday :w00t:), i played on a gaming program called Mplayer. Anyways i liked to f**k with the Sages (the moderators of Mplayer) and got banned. As i reset my IP i wanted to change my ways and be a good gamer. Rogue Spear had just come out that day and i wanted something new to be known as. I looked through dictionarys and such. One really cool name was Zenith, but it reminded me too much of the TV company. So i looked through synonyms of the word and found Vertex. Vertex is pretty secksi too, but it reminded me of math too much. So i looked for synonyms of Vertex, and it was then i saw Apex.

a·pex ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pks)
n. pl. a·pex·es or a·pi·ces (p-sz, p-)

1. The highest point; the vertex
2. The point of culmination

Apex of the earth's motion (Astron.), that point of the heavens toward which the earth is moving in its orbit.

The point on the celestial sphere toward which the sun and solar system appear to be moving relative to the fixed stars.

And of course, its a city in NC. As well a a pants company, communications company, DVD player company, a rock group, and just about everything else under the sun.

But all that was after my time. I thought the name rocked.. Apex... The Highest Point... The best... its me! And ive been using it ever since. Been about 5 years now, still apex, still fsckin' l33t, gee.

Good topic!

How did I 'invent' my nickname?

1. I wanted a name that stated my nationality (dutch).
2. I also wanted a name that's a real first name name in the US (take for instance maffia boss Dutch Schultz). So some people think I'm from the States.
3. I'm a very carefull and slow player, so just for fun I added "courage" to my nick
4. The both words (Dutch Courage) have a nice subtext I think.

Dutch Courage = Courage acquired from drinking liquor ;)

Hey russellg81, that other site that had the names thread you mentioned wouldn't happen to have been a Tribes 2 Renegades forum? There was a long thread I remember there.

Anyway, I chose Glanzer because:

1. Easy to spell and fast to type in chat.

2. Unique--not a dictionary word or well-known character that lots of other people would use.

3. Not game-specific so I can use the same name in every game.

4. Short and easy to put on a license plate.... If anyone is driving in the Columbus, Ohio area and they see a license plate that says "GLANZER", that's me. :P

5. Sounds kind of like a stealthy character and I like thiefs in DnD so it sounded good.

Well I've two names I use a lot, Glorfindel and HawK (HawK for gaming).

Glorfindel because I've always been a huge Lord of the Rings fan, and because Glorfindel is my favorite character from LotR.

I started to use HawK after my friends started to call me 'Havik' (which is Dutch for Hawk) because of my cunning and intelligence (in real life, not in gaming, and to their opinion, not mine :P). So I translated it into English, added a few caps, and what I got was HawK. Sometimes I write HawK! or - HawK! - too.

That will show them!" So after 3 hours of evil laughing I decided to call myself GeneralTom despite those mean soldiers who made fun of me.

Yes, joined to play CoD 4 competitively. Wanted to try the clan thing before I get really old...

I guess it looks strange that I have 3 set of tags, but MM is not a clan, it's a community and the tag is awarded by it's members same as the CODB tag.

Ahem. Regarding the Kennedy Speech here is what Wikipedia has to say:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ich_bin_ein_Berliner

According to an urban legend that has no basis in fact and is practically unknown in Germany,[2] Kennedy made a slightly embarrassing grammatical error by saying "Ich bin ein Berliner," referring to himself not as a citizen of Berlin, but as a common pastry:

Kennedy should have said "Ich bin Berliner" to mean "I am a person from Berlin." By adding the indefinite article ein, his statement implied he was a non-human Berliner, thus "I am a jelly doughnut".

The legend stems from a play on words with Berliner, the name of a doughnut variant filled with jam or plum sauce that is thought to have originated in Berlin.

In fact, the statement is both grammatically correct [3] and perfectly idiomatic, and cannot be misunderstood in context. The urban legend is prevalent only in English-speaking countries but largely unknown in Germany, where Kennedy's speech is considered a landmark in the country's postwar history.[4] The indefinite article ein can be and often is omitted when speaking of an individual's profession or residence but is necessary when speaking in a figurative sense as Kennedy did. Since the president was not literally from Berlin but only declaring his solidarity with its citizens, "Ich bin Berliner" would not have been correct.[5] Similarly, after 9-11 many politicians said "today we are all New Yorkers" and nobody thought they meant "we are all glossy magazines" or "we are all cars."

Got bored of it during November of 2007, and I had a liking for the character Brom from the Eragon books and I'm much like Brom in interior terms, so I changed and now my nickname is Brom.

Needless to say, or maybe not, my username in most every site I've registered is "ExpertKiller," and I cant change it to "Brom" so I'm a bit annoyed. Lol.
