COD4 Freezing my PS3

Just bought a PS3 yesterday and rented COD4. Brought it home, put in the game and as soon it starts loading I see a dialog screen that says something about an update, then the screen splits for a second, goes blue and stays there. I have to shut the console down with the power button on the unit to get the thing back to life. I have updated the software for the PS3 to 2.0. Anybody have any idea what's causing this?

take the game out, check for system update again, install if any then try the game again.

Yes, then if the game needs to be updated it will prompt you upon start of the game.

well this game has frozen my ps3 a few times during online game play but its not the first one and most likely not the last one either.

Its not the game its the servers, the game just gets confused when the servers are down.

well mine froze up when the servers were working. but like i said its not the first game to do and it wont be the last.
