Here's how you play, someone asks a question and whoever answers it first and correctly gets to make the next question. It can deal with any era. Only ask questions that people should know, so the same question doesn't drag out forever.
Simple eh?
On July 17th the French celebrate what? And why do they celebrate it?

It's Bastille Day, and it's July 14th, not the 17th.
It marks the anniversary of the beginning of the French Revolution when the people of Paris stormed the Bastille on the morning of July 14th, 1789.

Palags was right I was thinking of the Ram Kangaroo, one of the first APCs of it's kind used from 1943-1945. Though no doubt the Ram Kangaroo was a modified Mk I,
All though Canada produced numerous armored vehicles of ww2 they where usually british designed.
Lookd like Palags was right and gets the next question...

OK here's my question:
How many Wehrmacht soldiers died during World War II of a total 17,8 million who served ?
LtSounders
03-04-2004, 02:22 PM
I know the german total for military casualties where around 3.2 million, though I dont know how many died in the wehrmacht alone...
imported_palags

But the Wehrmacht is all of the German military forces :) Sorry, but your answer is wrong.
LtSounders

Is'nt the Wehrmacht the regular german army, then there are other sectors such as the SS etc...
LtSounders
03-04-2004, 03:50 PM
Oups never mind, my bad, the Wehrmacht is all the german army as my research has told me, though was the total casualties 4.5 million? Different books and sites will dictate differently?
Though I think this site is respectable http://users.cybercity.dk/~dko12530/ww2.htm (http://www.codboards.com/redirect.php?http://users.cybercity.dk/~dko12530/ww2.htm)

The Wehrmacht includes every military force of Germany: Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Heer, SS. OK, that question is bad :) i'll think of a new one. Btw my answer was 10,3 million casualties.
Here's the new question:

 the Reichstag wasn't taken by russians or by anyone. The germans that were in Reichstag surrendered (when the whole germany surrendered aka. end of WW2). But the russians got so close that the battles commenced inside the building, but the germans repelled the russian attack. Amaizing how a small group of men (about 30 - 40) could hold off one division (!!!) of rusians.
Here's a new question, that was just for fun :)

Ok, let's see...
What was the original name for Operation Overlord?
Prolly easy but best I can think of right now.
Mallose
03-17-2004, 10:15 PM
The original name was Operation Roundhammer
imported_palags
03-18-2004, 03:43 AM
I think Operation Roundup could be the right answer. Operation Roundup were planned allied landings in France in 1942. Also it could be Operation Sledgehammer or Roundhammer. The difference between theese three operations were the size of them. The biggest one was planned Operation Roundup, thats why i considered it the right answer. Operation Sledgehammer was planned a small cross-channel attack, but Operation Roundhammer was planned intermediate in size between Operation Sledgehammer and Operation Roundup.
So my answer is Operation Roundup.

My sources tell me Kulikov may have benn right!
The anwser you are looking for may be the PANZERSCHRECK
Just a few weeks before I left the final time for vacation, with
no inkling that I would not be back, we had some training on
basic weapons. the K98 infantry rifle, the panzerfaust (german
equivalent to a bazooka) and the wood-handled handgrenades.
This would make me livid if my child were asked to train on
these things, but my parents had no way of knowing, and very little
to say about it had they known. Testimony of a german during the war
http://users.pandora.be/dave.depickere/Text/bazooka.html (http://www.codboards.com/redirect.php?http://users.pandora.be/dave.depickere/Text/bazooka.html)
My anwser comes from: http://www.youth.net/memories/hypermail/0106.html (http://www.codboards.com/redirect.php?http://www.youth.net/memories/hypermail/0106.html)
Anways I think both anwsers may be acceptable?

papa_kulikov
04-14-2004, 09:34 AM
so what is the verdict???
imported_palags
04-14-2004, 12:50 PM
Well, my sources say that this was the Raketenpanzerbuchse 43.
In 1943, the Americans sent several weapons to the Russians, and among them were a number of 2.36in (60mm) "Bazooka" rocket launchers. Within a few weeks one or two had been captured by the Germans, and this weapon was their version of the Bazooka.
Source: my book "Twentieth-century artillery" by Ian Hogg
The closest answer was by LtSounders because I THINK that the Panzerschreck was very simmilar to Raketenpanzerbuchse 43 (maybe even the same, just shorter). Maybe someone knows?
But the Panzerfaust isn't simmilar to Bazooka or Raketenpanzerbuchse 43. It was a recoilless gun consisting of a steel tube and a shaped charge. Panzerfaust was issued ready-loaded. After firing the tube was thrown away because this weapon wasn't meant for reloading.
