Review of CoD4 MP beta by TeamXbox.
... a new gametype that will be making its first appearance in Call of Duty 4. Named Sabotage, this mode initially appears familiar. Each team races from their “base” to grab an explosive device and deliver to their opponents’ station. You’ll need to get into their base, arm the bomb, and protect it until it goes off. While this sounds a lot like many of the “neutral bomb” games we’ve all seen before, there’s an interesting twist that actually make the action a lot more intense.
Once you grab the bomb, your location will be constantly betrayed by a flashing indicator above your head that says “KILL!” And yes, you did read that correctly. Thankfully, you’ll be able to return fire while you’re carrying the bomb, but it’s still a terrifying experience. You likely won’t make it far before getting filled full of lead, as your foes will immediately swarm to your position. Generally, your only hope is that one of your teammates can instantly snatch it up after you’ve fallen. It’s almost like a game of tug-of-war in some ways since you’ll constantly be going back and forth.
This style of gameplay leads to some long, amazing intense games, as it isn’t uncommon for the bomb to make its way across the map multiple times in a single round. As soon as you make it to the objective to start planting the bomb, it’s impossible not to start screaming for protection from your teammates. It’s a harrowing experience, but the satisfaction you’ll earn from a win is well worth the stress. We don’t know what else the folks at Infinity Ward have in store for us, but we have a feeling that this will be one of the most popular gametypes.
