<sigh> I wish I could go back to cable. I was averaging 60-100 ping on UT03 servers but now with DSL its slightly higher. My DSL does have its moments though. I think DSL all depends on range from ISP. I am on the outskirts of town so I dont think its as fast as it could be.

I pick both, it's not really which is better, it's more based on:
1. Where you live
2. Where you live
3. Where you live
4. Where you live
and 5. Where you live :D
Cable is good if you don't have alot of people sharing the network around you. As for DSL it's also based on how many people share, but it doesn't make that much of an impact as cable. Cable is tweakable, you can uncap it for huge increase of bandwidth both upload and download, but of course you run into huge chances of losing your cable service, on the otherhand DSL cannot be capped nor tweaked because it's based on how your home wiring is, and how far you are from the Co.
But for the money, I would get cable because in San Fran, I've heard all good stuff about Comcast cable getting over 3mbit connection. As for DSL I'm around 1.3mbits. Also DSL has downtime sometimes, cable also sometimes, but overall either is better than stupid 56k!

I've never had downtimes in my cable membership of 2 and half years. Or I should say I never encountered one. On DSL, it's almost every week that I get problems. Either the PPoE is not connecting, DSL service going down or DSL DNS screwing up and telling me gtaboards.com doesn't exist, BAH.

Yea, once or twice a month I get the stupid PPoE thing. As for cable, probably it's just downtime when Comcast was building there network in San Fran (friend lost his cable a few times when he just got it, both TV cable and internet).
Hopefully I can get a job next year and I can get cable tv and internet, and see what I've been missing for 17 years :D

I'm planning to go back to cable. I live on the outskirts of my town so maybe that's why i'm not getting what i'm paying for. Either way, cable worked much better for me and I also own the Cable modem, with DSL i have to pay $5 a month for the modem lease.

Wtf? I'm just saying because different DSL-ISP give you different connection speeds.

Different ISP's give different speeds, you don't need to know my ISP name to increase the speed.

Yeah I get it. I've got it long ago. Dude, you just don't wanna learn. I asked you that you have posted your opinion already, let others post their opinion and stop sp*mming up this thread again.

Acutally, not really, around here, there are a few different DSL providers which share the same Co, it just depends on how much they get to use. And as I posted earlier.
Location is the #1 thing for dsl/cable.

i have cable at home, and i used to use dsl at my old office. i can't say which one was faster though, due to the fact that at any point during the day at least 2 of my 4 coworkers would be downloading like crazy from kazaa. they both seemed to be about the same speed, but i can't say for sure.
@ g-unit: drop it.

I have been checking this out for quite a while now just out of curiosity. It very much depends on where you are living as to what sort of price rate you will be charged.
Having run a squad in another game for 5 years or so and having people from around the world and all over the USA and Canada I have found out a few things.
Cable is generally a lower latency unless you are sitting on top of an End Office, CO or a neighborhood MUX.
Most commonly the price of cable for amount of bandwidth supplied is by far cheaper on the average.
Of course in some of the bigger market areas where there is more competition this can and does vary widely. But typically Cable is cheaper and more bandwidth with lower latency or pings.
I live in Montana which is the very definition of "rural" and I also live around 7 miles out of town but fortunately right on the edge and I mean the last node on the cable line lol
When I first started out the company was Excite@home and I was spoiled from the start as I had 5Mb down and sometime over 3mb up but generally around 2.4Mb up and this was night or day.
I have several friends on the west coast who constantly pinged my game server at 20ms down to 12ms and this was constant I had peeps in the Eastern part of the states pinging me at around 40 to 80ms.
But the gear that Excite used was all brand spanking new and when ATT took over due to some sort of bankruptcy deal they took all of the new gear and put in old gear and I had nothing but trouble the whole time they had it. In fact in the almost 2 years they ran the show I only paid like 4 or 5 months.
Then Comca$t bought out ATT and kept the same tired old equipment and in the year plus they had it I only paid a few months of so called service as I was able to document all of the stuff like 3000ms pings and worse and outages all of this was worse though before with ATT.
Finally a company called Bresnan (which years ago back East had built a very good reputation for being on top of the tech scene) took over and replaced a bunch of worn out routers, switches and stuff and although I have never had the killer connect I had with Excite they have been rock solid and I ping everything with around 40 to 60ms on trace routes.
I hear Comca$t has also fixed up it's act now and have pretty good connects. Some of my members have had great service with Road Runner too and I have had some good reports on several others over the years.
A good place to check out the availability and connection reliability is a site
www.dslreports.com
They have a ton of information for cable and of course DSL

Well, I have never experienced cable before, but we get 512k ADSL at our place. Its pretty fast, however it has its downfalls, which includes having a bandwidth limit of 3000 megabytes per month :o If you go over, you have to pay 10 TIMES AS MUCH! :o
Another downfall is that the Telstra server somtimes goes offline, so every now and then we can't use the internet. All things considered though, I think DSL is great!

I have no limit on my DSL, or atleast I haven't been charged for anything. Yes I do at least 2GB a month I know. (Up and down)
My DSL and my brother's DSL disconnects sometimes, I never had this problem with my cable.
My DSL is slower than cable too.... for whatever reason. I hate my DSL and wanna go back to cable soon.

I must admit though, ADSL is great (Other than the bandwidth limit, but that can't be helped where I live)

Cable...most of the cable services nearby here are faster than DSL...
so cable = win.
