On September 12th 2001,we all awoke to see a changed world. Terrorists had flown 2 planes into the world trade centre, turned the pentagon into a smouldering wreck and a field in pennsylvania into a graveyard.
Many of us watched these harrowing events with our own eyes. I remember returning home from my school - then a much younger person. There is little of that day that I can remember - but what I shall never forget is the pictures of the events
on television that evening. I'm sure millions of people had similar experiences to me.
I want to take this opportunity to pay tribute and homage to the following people.
Firstly the victims of the attacks - we will never forget the ultimate sacrifice you endured. As well as these let us never forget those who have suffered physical or mental scars they will never lose.
Secondly I wish to pay tribute to those heroic firefighters, police officers ,paramedics and health services of New York City who spent the day gallantly saving people's lives. Let us never forget you and those amongst your ranks who did not make it.
I wish pay my respects also to the relatives and friends, to any who might be reading, who suffered the loss of their close friends and loved ones - let us never forget you.
Finally, the last tribute is to the Mayor of New York City and its citizens as well as those of America. The city of New York will never return to the way it was, and nor will all of us,
To the people who call yourself religious martyrs, in your cave on the Afghan border, let me quote one of our forum members:
''Terror will never prevail as long as men and women love their freedom''
The world has changed forever since 8:46 AM Eastern Daylight Time. We will never forget. When you're doing your schoolwork or working for an office deadline, pause to think for 2 minutes about the events of 5 years ago today.
Anybody feel free to write tributes of your own below.
If anybody wishes me to change anything, PM or email me and i'll be happy to oblige.

Five long years past
Since that fateful day
How long each one seems to last
Because terror had it's way
But strong we will be
Standing proud and tall
As we watch and see
Nations rise to the call
Terror cannot ever win
As long as we have the freedom to choose
The ranks of terror will thin
For this is a fight we cannot and will not lose.

A truely sad yet memorable day. I remember that day well, I had just got home from school when my mum told me. I visited Ground Zero in 2004 with my school and I remember as soon as we arrived, everyone shut up and just went quiet, it was rather eerie being there.

I worked nights (11 pm to 7 am) I had been home for an hour reading a book. I very rarely listen to the raido and didnt own a tv, but i had a feeling that day that i should turn on the radio and listen to it. When i did the tv broadcast of the covarage was being played insted of the local morning show. I quickly left and went to my mothers house to watch it.
That was a sad day for all of mankind, not just Americans. It showed the world just how unprotected, unprepared, and unknowing we all are to this kind of threat. God bless those men and women that had their lives taken from them. It has always been my firm opinion that the families of those who died on 9/11 should never, for the rest of their lives, have to pay any taxes to any of the goverments of the world. I think they have paid enough. Even if that means i have to pay more in tax, so be it.
Thank you for a wonderful post Alpha. I know that anyone who has a heart knows that it comes from yours. I posted this twice as i felt it needed to be show in both these threads. Let us never forget the price those men and women paid in the name of human compasion, diginity, and honor. Let us always remember how we felt that day, watching the horrifing events brought on by a soulless, heartless, gutless band of people. Never forget how your heart ached as mine did when first one tower, then the other came crashing to the streets of NYC. God rest the souls of those men and women.
Thanks for quoteing me Alpha. All of us need to remember everyday how lucky we are to be alive, healty and most of all FREE.
I have been to Ground Zero and even the earth seems to screem out in angush at the events that took place that day. I think everyone should make an effort to visit NYC and the site of the late WTC. We all owe that much.
Edit: As an afterthought i came across this site a while back and thought it should be shared.

These things affect me very very deeply. Some of the TV programming over here has made me very sad.
I am going to NYC in late October. Plan to go to Ground Zero.

I was being rushed outta school by my mom and dad with everyone else! I was in 5th grade. i remember watching it on tv. Listen to the radio reports. Sad thing was my freind was in the South Tower when it fell but they got out alive and well.
I am a FireFighter now so it has even more meaning then before. So today all the Fire Compaines around here did a parade and we had some FDNY people with us crying because they didn't think anyone cared anymore. I now recivced(spelling) a fallen FDNY helment today from his son. I didn't want it because it should be with the family but the kid and his mom said I must or they would feel hurt. I feel greatful that they gave me the helment, so I wear it in honor of all those who have died in 9/11

I found this today and would like to add a special tribute to the Men and Women of Flight 93. These people are the epitomity of what the American heart and willpower amounts to. The people of Flight 93 took the very first stand against the threat of terrosism on Sept 11. These people emboided what every man woman and child wishes to be. These ppl, along with the NYPD and NYFD, are among the real heros of 9/11
For those of you who dont know the story of Flight 93,

It was about 5 am when my roomate rushed into my room and shouted "We are going to war mother f#cker!! They are bombing us from the sky!" He had a loaded 30-06 in his hand when he was saying all of this. Needless to say i was pretty freaked out. I went to the tv (still half awake and drunk) just in time to see the other plane slam into tower 2. I about lost it at this time. We finally got a handle of the situation and figured out it was terrorists, the next day we were calling our local marine recruiters. It took a few days of long talks from both of our familys to talk us out of joining the service.
Not to try and quote that country songs lyrics, but alot of us remember clearly where we were on 9-11.
I was at school, in the 6th form common room. I think it was at the mid-morning break (or lunch, I can't remember), and we watched it on the TV. However, the two crashes had already happened and there was still loads of confusion as to exactly what happened.
As i'm in the UK,
I remember coming back from school and seeing my mum watching the news on Skynews or CNN or some channel like that..
It's a day ill never forget..
R.I.P all who lost their lives <33
