Hello all,

I've recently purchased CoD2 for the xbox360 and have to say, it's the best first person shooter I've ever played and I am absolutely blown away by the thought of a CoD3. That's just the long story short. I am finally privilaged enough to play a CoD game (just uprgraded PC and bought a 360) and am completely new to the series. Further, I used to be a HEAVY online (as well as offline) FPS gamer. Halo, Unreal, Unreal 2, Q1-3, etc. That said, I haven't played a FPS (or many other games) for about 3 years. I've actually gotten better though...which is weird.

I started a "Hardened" Campaign...have gone in sequential order as far as missions goes...although I've unlocked the british mission when you raid the supply depots and trenches in northern egypt (assumably the first brit mission). I am up to the long mission as the Russians where you have to randevous with the 2nd infantry squad at the rail station throught he pipes, and then organize an "every day" attack on the German Headquarters (the germans currently hold it) . I've done this. After several attempts we finally reached their 2nd and 3rd floor positions and secured the station as ours. This is where my problem starts: I have had no problems so far...I've worked through the game and learned it at a good pace. Co-incidentally to something I mentioned earlier, I played 1 online capture the flag game and it was random map but turned out to be the same Northern Egypt map as I unlocked. I was more than holding my own through those trenches with hardened online vets. In single player, I've druged through the waves after waves of Nazi troops in Moscow and Stalingrad up to the point I've mentioned with a pace that surprises even myself. Have to say this.

Again...the railstation is another story. I start off on the top floor of the "post nazi/back in my control" HQ with 4-7 grenades coming at the windows. Do the math. I'm all alone, and at this point after several attempts, detached from my reinforcements (it was a grind flushing out that top floor). At times, I have 5-12 Germans coming up the stairs the SECOND the "round" starts. I've tried this about thirty times and it only gets worse.

Anyone else encounter this or familiar with what I'm talking about?

I know (hope) this will provide some of you a laugh, but this is probably the fiercest battle I've been in yet in any offline/online game in my life. (seriously). Halo hardcore, and all the other games I've mentioned...crazy at times, but not like this. I know I don't have to detail what the fighting can be like in this game to YOU lol, but jesus.

Also, I hope noobs like me are welcome...I'll def be buying COD3 in November and sticking around as long as it's protocol for people to just sign up around here.

Thanks,

Joe, Surrounded by Nazis :icon_twisted:

P.S./Edit: Oh, I forgot the best part...until I kill some of the Nazi's, I am out of automatic machine gun ammo. I am stuck on a longer zoom, although not scope, single action slow action rifle. High power, but doesn't do me much good in a half fire/half melee fight with 3 of them in a hallway.

Hello and welcome to the boards JoePNYY, sounds like you are in bit of a tough situation there :D

IMO the best tactic would just to manouver around the area constantly and slowly wear down the opponents as they peek around cover etc. I have completed CoD2 on the hardest difficulty on PC with little trouble (but a lot of time) but i think the xbox version is harder because of the controls..atleast it was for me ;)

Thank you for the replies and for the welcomes...they're appreciated.

Ironically enough, the minute I got done typing my OP last night I went upstairs and tried again and got it. I forced the Germans back out of the building and joined the MASSIVE battle that was taking place downstairs/outside of the railstation HQ. During this firefight (which was going on at least 25 minutes, saw at least 20 of my own men killed, at least 70 of the enemy) a Panzer II rolled into the scene and started blasting morter (?) rounds against our positions. This tank attack was also reinforced with another 30-40 Germans. Long story short...we took out the tank, cleared the area and then rushed to another rubbled section of the city where a second Panzer II was spotted. I wound up held down in deep trenches in the center of a city square with my unit (was like 25 of my guys all together, holding a position as the Germans counterattacked) while the tank repeatedly circled our entrenchment firing mortor rounds, destroying all of our cover. Eventually, when the tank literally JUMPED up over the trench I was in, I popped up, stuck a sticky bomb on the tracks and then b-lined towards a wall with a 10 foot drop and hurled myself over it...next thing I knew I heard a large explosion and when I looked...saw the 2nd tank in flames...but, there were about 5-7 Germans pouring out of it. Another firefight ensued and lasted a few minutes...finally settled with some nasty close quarters combat in the trenches and rubble.

Longer story short? I have since attacked and captured a) 2 German Supply dumps b) German Armory c) Apartment complexes around City Hall d) the southeast wing of City Hall.

Where I left off was right after we could declare the southeast wing officially clear. My troops spent the night eating and drinking what was left of their rations and getting some much needed rest. It was a long, hard push. After I post this I am going up and continuing from here. Next objective? Push west through the rest of City Hall and ultimately capture it, flush out any Nazi remnants, and rip down those swastika banners to be replaced with big red Soviet ones again :icon_twisted: lol.

I'll keep this updated...almost as a Journal of my progress if you will. I'm still wondering how/if the British and American campaigns could be as intense as this Russian one. Moscow and Stalingrad have been basically direct simulations of what really happened...amazing game so far. I hear the sirens sounding...I hear Nazi propaganda...I guess it's time to get back into the "****" :icon_wink:
