D in D-Day??

I dont know what the D in D-Day stands for..

I think it stands for Demolition day.. but im not sure.. can someone tell me what it stands for..Please be 110% sure.

D-Day wasn't used just for the D-Day we all know as.

It was used throughout the war for offensive operations...I reckon deliverance though.

I always thought D-Day was used to designate anything, not just war related stuff.

I keep thinking D-Day means "De-Day of Payback" or something like that, because D-Day sounds very strong.
